A pulse oximeter is a device that indirectly monitors the oxygen saturation of blood. This is useful in determining who well a casualty is breathing.
It is especially helpful in remote settings as a way to quickly keep tabs on the heart rate of your casualty. By continually monitoring the pulse oximeter, someone with a chest injury can be safely assessed for ongoing respiratory efficiency.
